Rowan Alba Learning Centre

At Rowan Alba we are experts in communication, excellent communication being key to delivering supportive relationships across all of our services.

Rowan Learning Centre offers the SVQ3 in Social Services and Healthcare, ILM Level 3 Coaching and Mentoring, and standalone training courses in Coaching in the Workplace and Boundaries and Power in supportive relationships.

We also offer one to one Coaching on request.

Accept

Our core product is the SVQ in Social Services and Healthcare. This qualification focuses on Reflective Practice and learning through experience. Candidates are supported to recognise the individuals who they work with as being invaluable sources of knowledge and experience. There is a focus on Person Centered working, Accepting the individuals reality and putting it at the centre of support. This allows the people that Rowan Alba’s services supports to be at the heart of the development of our staff, and staff in the Social Care sector as a whole.

Support

It seems only fitting then, that this service is a Social Enterprise, ensuring that all funds generated go directly back into Supporting even more people to change their own lives.

Include

All Stakeholders are Included in the Learning & Development of the organisation, and the training that we deliver, so it’s no surprise that an increasing number of SVQ candidates are individuals who have accessed services themselves.

Meet the team

I took on this role to ensure that the voices of the people who have, and still do, use our services are represented and listened to by stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, regardless of experience or position. I have also begun to integrate PIE, ACE and Trauma Focused practice into the heart of what we do here, highlighting the importance of relationships and effective communication through Coaching training and SVQ delivery.

Ewan Law

Training and Learning Coordinator, Rowan Alba

I started working in the homeless sector at the outset of the Rough Sleepers Initiative Cold Weather Shelters in London in 1991. I moved to Edinburgh in ’98 where I’ve worked chiefly with the Old Town Housing Association and the Homeless Outreach Project in Street Outreach, Addictions and Intensive Support.

My Senior Support Worker role at Thorntree Street started in 2014.

Declan McKiernan

Senior Support Worker, Rowan Alba

I began my Rowan Alba journey as a student on placement at Stramullion. I then moved into a role as support worker, for 6 years, gaining great insight into the lifes of the people we support.

I have been provided many opportunties to develop myself and my practice.  For four years I have been involved with assessing SVQ candidates. I recently moved into the role of team leader and am enjoying the challenge of a new role and being in a new service.
